"Charley Crockett is the reason that believers and lovers of American roots music rummage and wait and pine...the sound of the human adventure unmediated." -Craig Havighurst, WMOT (Nashville, TN)

August 23, 2019 – Charley Crockett recorded his new album The Valley, coming September 20th via Son of Davy/Thirty Tigers, one week before life-saving open-heart surgery. You can hear the urgency of Crockett staring his own mortality in the face, perhaps most viscerally felt in new single “5 More Miles.” The song gallops along from the start, with Crockett nearly shouting to hit notes just outside of his register, and practically wailing as the words spill out of his mouth as though he can’t get them out fast enough.

“I don’t know what I can say about this song,” Crockett reveals. “It explains itself awfully good. ‘I know this life, it sure is hard. All I can do is play my cards. Keep sayin’ I’m free, but I just don’t know. Five more miles for me to go.’”

Crockett, who is currently on a month-long headlining European tour, today also announces a fall U.S. tour. The tour will begin at Wildwood Revival festival in Arnoldsville, GA before a headlining run that includes shows at the Troubadour in L.A., Tractor Tavern in Seattle, WA, and the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, CA. Crockett will also headline historic Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX on New Year’s Eve. This comes during what has already been a banner year for Crockett, who has made his Stagecoach Festival, Grand Ole Opry and Newport Folk Festival debuts in 2019.

Radio has already begun to shine a light on The Valley, with adds and spins at both Triple A and Americana radio. Early Triple A adds include WUMB (Boston, MA) and WYCE (Grand Rapids, MI), with spins at KXT (Dallas, TX), KGSR (Austin, TX), The Current (Minneapolis, MN), KCSN (Los Angeles, CA) and WFPK (Louisville, KY). Lead single “Borrowed Time” debuted at number 47 on the Americana radio singles chart, and The Valley has adds at WMOT (Nashville, TN), WSM (Nashville, TN), KHYI (Dallas, TX), WDVX (Knoxville, TN), WNRN (Charlottesville, VA) and The Ranch (Ft Worth, TX).

Crockett spoke to the Recording Academy/Grammys.com while he was at Newport Folk, touching on The Valley as well as the remarkable story of how he came to make the album, find that interview here. Backstage ahead of his Grand Ole Opry debut, Crockett sat down with WMOT’s Craig Havighurst for a fascinating interview that covers Crockett’s extraordinary life, listen here.
