Charley Crockett On The Cover Of American Way, Second Album Of 2018 Out This Friday

The millions of people flying American Airlines this December will look into their seat back pockets and see Charley Crockett’s face. Charley is the December cover star of the in-flight magazine, which takes a deep dive into Dallas-Ft Worth, including a feature on Charley and how the Deep Ellum neighborhood shaped his career.

Charley will release his second album of 2018 this Friday, December 7th via Thirty Tigers. Charley Crockett presents Lil G.L.’s Blue Bonanza pays tribute to Crockett’s busking days, with an album stocked with his own interpretations of old-school country songs and half-forgotten blues gems. Featuring 15 songs originally performed by George Jones, Ernest Tubb, T-Bone Walker, Jimmy Reed, Charles Brown, Lavelle White, Ray Charles, and others, Blue Bonanza shines a light on a modern musician with traditional roots.

Rolling Stone says the first single “Good Time Charley’s Got The Blues,” a cover of Danny O’Keefe’s “Good Time Charlie’s Got The Blues,” finds that“Crockett’s forlorn drawl gives the dusty classic a fresh sheen, with Rhodes piano, rippling guitar leads and a whistle solo in the closing bars.” Wide Open Country says “the old soul has made a name for himself as not only a master interpreter of traditional songs, but also one of the finest torch-carriers of classic-minded country, blues and Cajun music for the modern world.”

Blue Bonanza marking his fifth release since 2015 and second in 2018 alone, following the critically acclaimed Lonesome As A Shadow released earlier this year. Few contemporary artists can match that output. Rolling Stone said Lonesome As A Shadow was one of the “25 Best Country and Americana albums of 2018 so far” back in June (alongside artists like Willie Nelson, Brandi Carlile, Kacey Musgraves and John Prine), and NPR World Café praised Charley for his “hard-earned version of optimism that's nothing short of inspiring.”

Crockett will wrap up 2018 with a run of headline shows in legendary Texas venues like Billy Bob's Texas, Luckenbach Dancehall, and Antone's with Jaime Wyatt. In 2019, he's booked to play major festivals like Stagecoach as well as headline tours in North America, UK, Europe, and Australia.
