Charley Crockett Releases Two New Songs Via Bruce Robison’s The Next Waltz Today; SXSW Next, World Tour Starts In April

“How Low Can You Go” and “River of Sorrow” out digitally today, available as a 7” on March 29th

March 8, 2019 – Charley Crockett is proving to be one of the most prolific artists in music. After releasing two critically acclaimed albums in 2018, today Crockett releases two new original songs via Bruce Robison’s The Next Waltz project, the Robison produced “How Low Can You Go” and “River of Sorrow.” The new songs are available today digitally, and a 7” will be released on March 29th.

Rolling Stone says, “typical of Crockett’s writing, ‘How Low Can You Go’ not only resonates with his own life, but transforms the hardship of its lyrics with its upbeat melody — something that’s even more true of the gospel cut ‘River of Sorrow.’ Here he leans into his Southern drawl while Fox’s accordion weaves in and out around him.”

Crockett will play his first shows since undergoing open-heart surgery in January next week in Austin during SXSW. He’ll play the Revival at Camp Lucy on March 13th alongside Nathaniel Rateliff, Shakey Graves, Patty Griffin and more, and then play a special The Next Waltz Family Jamboree show on March 15th at The Pershing with Shinyribs, Wood and Wire, James Steinle and Carson McHone. Crockett will then begin his 2019 world tour with a two-night stand at the Kessler Theater in Dallas, TX. The tour will take him around the US, UK, Europe and Australia, and more dates will be announced soon. The US tour includes festival sets at Stagecoach, Newport Folk, Red Wing Roots and Braun Brothers Reunion.

Crockett had been living with a hernia for seven years before the pain (and the funds to finally afford health insurance) led him to a doctor late last year to get surgery. As part of the hernia surgery prep, the 34-year-old Crockett visited a cardiologist who discovered that Crockett had been born without one of his three heart valves. Had he not discovered it, the doctor said Crockett would have suffered major heart failure in the next 12-24 months.
