March 26, 2019 – Charley Crockett will make his Grand Ole Opry debut on June 25th. Crockett’s debut will come in the middle of his 2019 world tour, which begins with a two-night run at the Kessler Theater in Dallas, TX on April 5th and 6th. The headlining tour will hit the US, UK, Europe and Australia, with more dates to be announced soon, and Crockett will make appearances at Stagecoach, Newport Folk, Red Wing Roots and Braun Brothers Reunion festivals.

“The Opry is one of those stages I didn’t even consider as a possibility to be honest, says Crockett. “So, to say I’m humbled by the invitation to play there is like saying thanks to somebody that just saved my life! I hope they like me.”

Crockett released two new original songs via Bruce Robison’s The Next Waltz project earlier this month, “How Low Can You Go” and “River of Sorrow,” both produced by Robison. The new songs are available now digitally, and a 7” will be released on March 29th.

Rolling Stone says, “typical of Crockett’s writing, ‘How Low Can You Go’ not only resonates with his own life, but transforms the hardship of its lyrics with its upbeat melody — something that’s even more true of the gospel cut ‘River of Sorrow.’ Here he leans into his Southern drawl while Fox’s accordion weaves in and out around him.”

The 2019 tour will be Crockett’s first since undergoing open-heart surgery in January. He had been living with a hernia for seven years before the pain (and the funds to finally afford health insurance) led him to a doctor late last year to get surgery. As part of the hernia surgery prep, the 34-year-old Crockett visited a cardiologist who discovered that Crockett had been born without one of his three heart valves. Had he not discovered it, the doctor said Crockett would have suffered major heart failure in the next 12-24 months. Hear Charley talk about his experience in a video made in partnership with the American Heart Association here.
