November 4, 2019 – Dalton Domino’s recently released new album Songs From The Exile (Lightning Rod Records) has been met with critical praise, and this week the album debuted on the Americana Music Association radio album chart at #47. “Intense” (Rolling Stone Country) single “Love Is Dangerous” moves up to “Love Is Dangerous” #46 on the singles chart. Songs From The Exile also debuted at #26 on both the Billboard Americana/Folk chart and the Top New Artist Album chart. Domino also kicks off a West Coast run tonight with Wade Bowen.
Written during a period of closeted addiction and released during the clear-eyed clarity of Domino's sobriety, Songs From The Exile mixes hope with heartache, melody with melancholy. It's an album about the damage we sometimes inflict upon ourselves, with 13 clutter-free country songs that were recorded during a series of live takes. It’s a masterful album that finds Domino harnessing his considerable talent as a songwriter.
Domino was candid about his experience leading up to the making of Songs From The Exile in an interview with The Boot, which can be found here.
Here’s what we’ve been hearing about Domino and Songs From The Exile:
-Rolling Stone Country
“Dalton Domino’s country roots run deep in his music. Distinct Red Dirt influences and Domino's descriptive songwriting can be heard.”
“Plenty of pull-no-punches honesty.”
“A songwriter to watch.”
“Surrounded by highly-regarded roots musicians chosen by producer Justin Pollard, Domino placed these hard-won songs against a live, in-the-room arrangement, which stands in stark contrast to the orchestration of his prior album, Corners.”
-The Bluegrass Situation
“Delves deeply and sometimes mercilessly into the throes of emotions and jagged memories we all wrestle with, but rarely with as much candidness and naked honesty as Domino has the courage to do here.”
-Saving Country Music
“When the album is backed up by a performer who remains one of the most exciting young songwriters working today, Domino at least deserves a chance to prove he can try again, because Songs From The Exile proves he’s a wiser, more mature performer and human in general.”
