March 10, 2023 – Four years ago this week, Gabe Lee released his first ever single “Eveline.”

To celebrate the anniversary, and give a glimpse into the sound of new music Lee is working on, today Lee releases a re-imagined version of “Eveline” on his longtime label home, Torrez Music Group. On this new 2023 version, Lee has swapped out pedal string and harmonica accompaniment for banjo, fiddle and stand-up base. The result is a stripped-down sound that manages to sound fuller than the 2019 version. Lee also displays a richer, more confident vocal on the 2023 reworking of “Eveline,” which was recorded at the Sound Emporium in Nashville, TN.

“’Eveline’ is a sweet song, but a regretful one too, harping on what it feels like looking in the rearview at things you wish you hadn’t left behind,” Lee says. “Originally released over 4 years ago, this newer and glowed up version brings the roughhewn landscape of pawnshops, starved love, and lost gambles brilliantly back to life.”

Lee is currently on the front end of a two-month Spring tour, and next week he’ll head to Austin for series of six shows during SXSW. On May 6th, Lee will take part in Luke Combs’ The Bootleggers Tailgate event around Combs’ Soldier Field show. In August, Lee will make his debut at the Long Road Festival in Leicestershire, UK, joining a line-up that includes Jon Pardi, Margo Price, Sierra Ferrell, Joshua Ray Walker, Rissi Palmer, Blackberry Smoke and many others.

Billboard put the album at #9 on their list of “The 10 Best Country Albums of 2022,” saying Lee’s “cool vocal delivery and swagger suggest a heartland roots-rock star, melding country, folk and rock, while his rich, detailed lyrics reveal an observant, impactful songwriter.” The Hometown Kid came in at #18 on Rolling Stone’s list of “The 25 Best Country and Americana Albums of 2022.” Rolling Stone calls Lee “one of Nashville’s biggest contenders,” adding that “heartbreak, homesickness, and growth are gloriously on display” on The Hometown Kid.
