Learning Faith was recorded in Austin, TX at the Aerie with production from Mark “Professor Feathers” Addison. While the album has a big sound, Klein and Addison wanted to keep the feel of it very raw. To achieve that, in many cases Addison doubled Klein’s stomp box or electric guitar so the rhythms and the riffs - while simple - would sound huge. Guitarist Billy Masters (Suzanne Vega, Dar Williams) came in and created a layer of atmosphere on top of the rhythm and the vocals, Rob Hooper (Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Guy Forsyth) added real drums where they were needed to drive something home, and Wendy Colonna added some gorgeous low harmonies.
Jess will be joined on most of the tour by Mike June, an Austin-based singer-songwriter from New Jersey. Mike June is a true independent artist. June has self-released four critically acclaimed albums while touring non-stop over the past few years. The North Coast Journal writes, "I swoon over [Mike June's] songs-for-the-working-class sound. Think The Clash meets Johnny Cash." June's songs range from tender, heart-wrenching accordion ballads like "Mama You've Been On My Mind" to the politically outspoken heartland rock of "Hard Times". His latest release is "Talkin' Revolution Blues"
