Matrimony Deliver Exhilarating Anthems Via Columbia Records EP Out June 11th, Bonnaroo, Summer Tour

Charlotte, NC-based Band Releasing Debut EP Montibello Drive With Full Length To Follow

May 28, 2013 – Fortified with uber-anthemic songs, Montibello Drive, the debut EP from Charlotte, NC upstarts Matrimony, will be released on Columbia Records June 11th, 2013.  Matrimony’s songs are based in rock structures, with rootsy embellishments like banjo and mandolin and an incredibly strong melodic sense, all of it wrapped up in tight familial harmonies.  They put on a raucous live show, unafraid to pound drums and manhandle acoustic instruments.   Matrimony will spend the summer and beyond on the road.  They’ll appear at Bonnaroo 2013, performing on June 14th and June 15th, and having just wrapped up tours with the Gaslight Anthem and Kopecky Family Band, they’ll hit the road later this summer with Matt Pond with more dates to be announced.

Fronted by husband and wife Jimmy Brown (vocals, guitar) and Ashlee Hardee Brown (vocals, keyboards), the group is rounded out by Ashlee’s brothers Jordan Hardee (drums) and CJ Hardee (mandolin, banjo).  The family dynamic creates a deeply intuitive musical connection that can be heard on record and is even clearer during the band’s live shows.  Matrimony are already hometown favorites, with the Charlotte Observer calling them “one of the area’s best new bands….occasionally echoes the Arcade Fire’s musical recipe.”

The EP highlights four of the bands most sparkling tunes.  “Golden City” leads off with a galloping beat and a chorus of “oh oh oh’s” that fans will be singing along to on tour all summer.  “Mecklenburg Jail” is an emotional story-song, with Hardee Brown on lead vocals surrounded by dirty guitar and fingerpicked banjo.  “Obey Your Guns” is a rousing call to action, telling listeners to take advantage of life while they’re young amidst handclaps, banjo, drums and impassioned vocals.  The EP concludes with “Giant,” a slow building, powerful live favorite.

The EP and forthcoming full length were recorded in Nashville with Jay Joyce (Brandi Carlile, Cage the Elephant, Eric Church).  Despite having the sessions halted by a fire caused by lightning hitting the studio’s roof, Joyce and the band overcame the natural disaster and captured Matrimony’s on-stage intimacy by recording most of the album live in the studio.
