Matrimony Announce Columbia Records Debut Out May 6th, Billboard Premieres New Track
Band Has Seven SXSW Show’s This Week, Listen To New Song “Southern Skies” Here:
March 10, 2014 – Today, Columbia Records announces the release of Matrimony’s full-length debut Montibello Memories on May 6, 2014. The announcement came via Billboard, who also premiered the first track from the album, “Southern Skies,” which displays the band’s “rumbling, finely honed sound.” The band is headed to Austin, TX for SXSW, where they will play seven shows, including a Paste Magazine day party, American Songwriter day party and the High Road Touring showcase.
Matrimony’s debut EP on Columbia helped launch them onto the national stage, with appearances on NPR Mountain Stage and Music City Roots, as well as praise from Paste, CMT Edge, the Village Voice, Huffington Post and more. Fronted by husband and wife Jimmy Brown (vocals, guitar) and Ashlee Hardee Brown (vocals, keyboards), the group is rounded out by Ashlee’s brothers Jordan Hardee (drums) and CJ Hardee (mandolin, banjo). The family dynamic creates a deeply intuitive musical connection that can be heard on record and is even clearer during the band’s live shows.
Eight of the album’s 11 tracks were recorded in Nashville with Jay Joyce (Brandi Carlile, Cage the Elephant, Eric Church), while the band produced and recorded the other three tracks in their hometown of Charlotte, NC. Despite having the Nashville sessions halted by a fire caused by lightning hitting the studio’s roof, Joyce and the band overcame the natural disaster and captured Matrimony’s on-stage intimacy by recording most of the album live in the studio.
