“A pulsing, personal experience, guided by Stevens' singular voice and vision, that is the most exciting entry on her resume yet.” -WNYC Soundcheck on the Becca Stevens Band’s latest album Perfect Animal

June 9, 2015 - Yesterday, the Becca Stevens Band taped a live performance and interview on WNYC Soundcheck, performing three standouts from their critically acclaimed album Perfect Animal, out now on Universal Music Classics. Listen to the session here.

The Becca Stevens Band also added a slate of Midwest dates to their ever-expanding U.S. tour – including shows in Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. A full list of tour dates can be found here.

Perfect Animal has received a wide swath of praise since it’s release, here’s what we’ve been hearing:

Stevens focuses on cultivating tension within a song and then finds riveting and flat-out gorgeous ways to release it…. Stevens looks for detours and wild ear-stretching sounds that make you want to listen again.”

-NPR All Things Considered

“Ms. Stevens has a wizardly proficiency on an array of stringed instruments, and her singing is luxurious: pliable and hale but often foreshadowing a sob.”

-New York Times

“Stevens' strange brew, which can be pictured thus: St. Vincent (edgy math rock) meeting Björk (off-kilter electro folk), Esperanza Spalding (buoyant jazz classicism), and Grace Potter (smooth noodling) in Usher's studio. “

-Village Voice

“At Times Resembling A More Folk-Tinged St. Vincent, Stevens Offers Richly Twisted Originals Alongside Covers Of Frank Ocean, Usher and Steve Winwood.”

-Los Angeles Times

"This is a statement of arrival, a piece of proof that exciting, complex and interesting pop music is still out there and it’s still as good as it’s ever been."

“She blends a clever range of styles into a fine hybrid without ever sounding like she’s showing off.”

-Chicago Reader
