February 26, 2019 – Charley Crockett had been living with a hernia for seven years before the pain (and the funds to finally afford health insurance) led him to a doctor late last year to get surgery. As part of the hernia surgery prep, the 34-year-old Crockett visited a cardiologist who discovered that Crockett had been born without one of his three heart valves. Had he not discovered it, the doctor said Crockett would have suffered major heart failure in the next 12-24 months. Crockett got open-heart surgery last month to repair his heart, and today he announces the first part of a 2019 world tour that will see him headline shows in the U.S., UK, Europe and Australia.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about the surgery since I got out of the hospital,” says Crockett. “It was just luck that another health issue I was dealing with happened to draw attention to my heart problems. I might’ve made it another year or so out there on the highway before my heart gave out on me. Knowing that, I can’t help but feel like I’m starting my second life. Maybe it was more than just luck that saved me. I don’t know.  All them years in the shadows on the street I was putting my music first. Allowing it to guide my life. I’ve never had a heart that worked at 100% in all my 34 years but I do now and they better look out, because I’m a new man. I’m like a hurricane. “

The U.S. dates include appearances at Revival at Camp Lucy during SXSW, as well as Stagecoach, Newport Folk, Red Wing Roots and Braun Brothers Reunion festivals.

2018 was a breakout year for Crockett. He released two albums in 2018, Lonesome As A Shadow and Lil G.L.’s Blue Bonanza via Son of Davy/Thirty Tigers, to critical praise. Crockett also appeared on the cover of American Way magazine and the Austin Chronicle in December. He wrapped 2018 with a run of headline shows in legendary Texas venues like Billy Bob's Texas, Luckenbach Dancehall, and Antone's. He also spoke to NPR All Things Considered during the final weekend of 2018, a wide-ranging interview where Crockett discussed his remarkable life, how busking on the streets for nearly a decade shaped his approach to music and Lil G.L.’s Blue Bonanza.
