“Kick Out The Windows Of What Most People Think Of Folk And Bluegrass” -Folk Alley

August 26, 2016 - Parsonsfield see a lot of the United States during their extensive tours. In the stunning new video for “Barbed Wire,” a standout from their new album Blooming Through The Black (out September 9th on Signature Sounds), the band document some of their journeys with a video full of gorgeous vistas and landscapes. The song itself is driven by fuzz bass and an insistent back beat, and while the landscape in the video showcase natural beauty, the lyrics in “Barbed Wire” take on the fear that is often manufactured all across the U.S.

As Parsonsfield’s Chris Freeman told The Bluegrass Situation about the song and video, "we went into the studio with vague fragments. We were coming off our first tour through Wyoming and Montana, and the news was buzzing about building a wall across the Mexico border. The whole country was fragmented politically while we were, literally, in some very isolated places. It's easy to see how isolation can lead to fear and intolerance. That's sort of what shaped the song, lyrically. Meanwhile, Sam [Kassirer] helped us build the connective tissue needed to turn these vague notions and musical ideas to make one of our most experimental arrangements yet.”

Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter, Lake Street Dive) produced Blooming Through The Black, and also helped Parsonsfield convert an old axe factory on the banks of the Farmington River in Connecticut into the studio where they would record the stirring new album. Creating in such a unique and enormous space pushed the band to embrace understatement and subtlety to balance out the their natural exuberance and energy. The result is an album that finds the band deftly moving between driving anthems and quieter, more reflective tracks. And throughout Blooming Through The Black, the band continues to hone their unbelievable harmonies.

The band will tour extensively throughout the fall, current tour dates below.
