If you’re headed down to Austin next week, make sure to try and catch sets from Jaime Wyatt, River Whyless and Matt the Electrician.
Jaime Wyatt will play three sets at SXSW, including the CMA Songwriters show on Thursday at 8pm at ACL Live at the Moody Theatre. Rolling Stone Country says she's "for fans of: Margo Price, Elizabeth Cook, outlaw country artists who have actually served time.” Her new album Felony Blues has been one of the most talked about country album’s of 2017 so far, with coverage and praise from Noisey, Billboard, The Los Angeles Times, Associated Press, Saving Country Music ("leader in the clubhouse for 2017 Album of the Year"), L.A. Weekly , American Songwriter and more.
River Whyless will have 6 sets in Austin this year. Their stop at SXSW is part of a coast-to-coast headlining tour that alsoincludes festival stops at Bonnaroo, Savannah Stopover, Mountain Jam, Hogs For The Cause, Old Settler’s, High Sierra and Del Fest. NPR Music included the band in their Austin 100 SXSW preview, and River Whyless and their latest albu We All The Light has received praise and coverage from NPR Music, the New York Times, the Associated Press, NPR All Things Considered, WNYC Soundcheck, NPR World Café, No Depression, the Bluegrass Situation, WFUV and more.
Matt the Electrician will play Wednesdaynight at the Combo Plate Booking showcase. KUT says "his music is also an inclusive mixture of folk and pop, humble but peppered with Matt’s often-irreverent observations on life." Beginning in 2015, Matt embarked on a 7-inch series of releases (with digital distribution). During the course of the project, Matt worked with six different artists, mostly from his hometown of Austin, TX. On May 19, 2017, the sixth record in the series will be released, recorded with Austin’s The Deer, and at the same time, Matt will be releasing a double album of sorts, The Doubles, including all of the songs from the 7-inch project, sequenced as a proper album, as well as new versions of each song, recorded with his current trio. The 7-inch project has won praise and coverage from NPR Music, eTown, the Bluegrass Situation, XPN and the Austin Chronicle.
