River Whyless Touring With Blind Pilot This Fall, Continue Triple A/Non-Comm Success

New Single “Falling Son” Out Now, Listen Here

New Album We All The Light Out August 26th On Roll Call Records

August 5, 2016- River Whyless has expanded their upcoming fall tour, adding East and West Coast dates on Blind Pilot’s upcoming tour. These dates are in addition to headlining shows and festival dates, including Americana Fest, the Edmonton Folk Festival, Philly Folk Fest, and The Festy. River Whyless also have dates with Lucius and Elephant Revival. The band is touring in support of their stunning new album We All The Light, produced by Justin Ringle of Horse Feathers, out August 26th on Roll Call Records.

Today, the band releases the album’s second single, “Falling Son.” It’s a great example of the band's musical direction on the album, blending the group's three singers and songwriters voices, intertwining and layering together with gorgeous harmonies, rarely working alone. Underneath it all is the varied rhythmic pulse of drummer/percussionist Alex McWalters. Lyrically it's a song about the end of youth, about external pressures pulling us away from our dreams as we age and our internal struggle to make something honest and lasting despite that pressure.  Listen to “Falling Son” here or here.

The band made a triumphant debut at this year’s Newport Folk Fest, stream their full set via NPR Music. The set includes an inspired cover of “Airline To Heaven” with Kam Franklin of The Suffers.

The album’s first single, “All Day All Night,” is taking off at radio as well. The single is getting support from over 25 Triple A/Non-Comm stations to date, including the nationally syndicated NPR program World Cafe, WFUV (NY, NY), XPN (Philadelphia, PA), KXT (Dallas, TX), WYEP (Pittsburgh, PA), KTBG (Kansas City, MO), WUMB (Boston, MA) and Open Air (Denver, CO). Here’s what we’ve been hearing about River Whyless and We All The Light:

“Amazing band from Asheville, one of my favorite bands of 2016.”

-Bob Boilen, NPR Music

“All Day All Night” percolates atop an almost psychedelic groove that could owe something to old Appalachian string band music but which almost certainly draws on the so-called ‘desert blues’ of West Africa…Add the band’s trademark vocal harmonies, and you have a bewitching song that just might have you marking their August 26 release date on your calendar.”

-John Schaefer, WNYC Soundcheck

“On ‘All Day All Night,’ the band’s harmonies swirl with warmth and build with melodic intensity over the acoustic instrumentation…simmers with passion buoyed by its hypnotic percussiveness.”

-Bruce Warren, XPN

"’All Day All Night’ by the Asheville band River Whyless is total ear-candy…it's got a drive to it, and adventurous vocals that really make it pop...not something a lot of folk's more pastoral artists serve up. Dig it. “

-David Pitz, Baeble Music
