River Whyless Talk To NPR All Things Considered About New Album We All The Light

August 31, 2016 - Yesterday, River Whyless spoke to NPR All Things Considered’s Ari Shapiro about their new album We All The Light, released last week on Roll Call Records. It’s a powerful, intimate conversation about songwriting and how real life events affected two of the album’s best tracks – “Blood Moon” and “Baby Brother.” Listen to the segment here.

Listen to a new Daytrotter session here. Watch the stunning video for “All Day All Night” here.

The band will be on tour throughout the fall, including Americana Fest and east and west coast shows on Blind Pilot’s tour. Current tour dates below.

Praise continues to roll in for River Whyless and We All The Light, here’s what we’ve been hearing:

“River Whyless finds uncommon balance on We All The Light, combining exceptional songwriting talent and unexpected sounds for something truly singular.”

-NPR Music

"Create a distinctive vibe that will ring familiar bells without sounding quite like any of them."

-Associated Press

"There’s an element of magic to the songs on We All the Light that elevate them from just another folk pop album to a much richer work, packed with intricacies that keep you on your toes as you listen."

-No Depression

“’All Day All Night’ percolates atop an almost psychedelic groove that could owe something to old Appalachian string band music but which almost certainly draws on the so-called ‘desert blues’ of West Africa…Add the band’s trademark vocal harmonies, and you have a bewitching song that just might have you marking their August 26 release date on your calendar.”

- WNYC Soundcheck

“This buzzing Asheville four-piece takes the tones and arrangements of Appalachian music and incorporates them into expansive songs dressed up in pop and rock.”
