Hear Sam Morrow and Jaime Wyatt’s “go-for-broke” duet “Skinny Elvis” via Rolling Stone Country
Sam Morrow will release his new album Concrete and Mud this Friday on Forty Below Records. One of the album’s standout tracks is “Skinny Elvis,” Sam’s duet with friend and fellow Forty Below label mate Jaime Wyatt.
Today, Rolling Stone Country premieres the song, written by Forty Below label head Eric Corne specifically for Sam, saying:
“The go-for-broke boogie appears on Morrow's new album Concrete and Mud, which sees the California singer hitting his stride after battling his way to sobriety in recent years. Fellow Sunshine State resident and kindred spirit Wyatt – who's done some hard time – tackle this amphetamine-fueled rattler with full-throated verve. ‘Loosen your belt, let yourself go/Stage a comeback, it's time to steal the show,’ they sing. More than a mere good-humored invocation of the King, they belt it out with the panache of two people who have come back from the brink themselves.”
Rolling Stone Country has already said Concrete and Mud “should be on the radar of anyone who loves greasy, crunchy, deep-fried Southern rock,” and they are not alone in their early praise for the album. American Songwriter says the new album finds Morrow "exploring his myriad influences, including Texas country, Southern rock, and old-school funk." Wide Open Country has called Concrete and Mud one of the "9 Country and Americana Albums to look Forward to in 2018," alongside albums from artists like Kacey Musgraves, Ruby Boots, American Aquarium and Brandi Carlisle. SiriusXM Outlaw Country has added first single “Quick Fix” into rotation.
Concrete and Mud was recorded largely live in the studio on a vintage Neve 8068 console with producer/engineer Corne at the helm. It shines a light on Morrow's strength as a songwriter, front-man, and bandleader. At 27 years old, the L.A.-based, Houston, TX native has found his footing as an artist and appears poised to join the ranks of current West Coast heavyweights like Sam Outlaw, Jade Jackson, and Wyatt.
After an album release show at the Peppermint Club this Thursday, March 29th, presented by 88.5 FM, Sam will head out on a coast-to-coast tour next month. Full list of tour dates below.
