Saul Conrad Takes Dazzling The Fancy On Fall U.S. Tour

Coast-To-Coast Tour Kicks Off September 6th In Boston, MA, New Album Out September 17th

August 15, 2013 – Saul Conrad, whose songs are “dense tangles of opaque songwriting and influences ranging from 1960s psychedelia to old country” (Boston Globe), will head out on a coast-to-coast U.S. tour in support of his dazzling, and at times dissonant, new album The Fancy.  Repurposing ideals from sometimes disparate styles – folk, classical, jazz, blues, country, psychedelic and noise – Conrad is unafraid to allow songs to devolve into cacophonous, occasionally nasty sonic conflict before finding a beautifully melodic denouement. The new songs will take on new forms at these shows, with Conrad reworking certain parts for a live setting.  The tour kicks off September 6th in Conrad’s hometown of Boston, MA, and The Fancy will be released September 17th on Mountain of Leopards Records in partnership with Cavity Search Records.

Conrad comes from an extremely musical family.  His great uncle is the renowned classical pianist Claude Frank, and music has been at the core of his life since he was a boy.  Steeped in classical piano throughout his childhood, moving from “The Skater” to Beethoven sonatas, in his teens Conrad was introduced to rock & roll and jazz by friend and longtime collaborator Xan Aird (The Virgins), who also plays on The Fancy.  Nowadays, Conrad’s influences range from Mahler to Gram Parsons to Syd Barrett.
